CartONG

CartONG is a French humanitarian mapping charity whose mission is to providing mapping services and GIS to humanitarian organisations working in relief and solidarity. It is particularly interested in working on displacement mapping of refugees and IDP's and on mapping the consequences of those displacements.

ESRI - Mapping technology

Founded in 1969 by a humanitarian and businessman Jack Dangermond, ESRI the world’s largest and most successful computer mapping company has agreed to donate an unlimited supply of mapping software, according to specified need. Global MapAid is delighted to receive this support. This will range from web serving to PDA based applications.

HumaniNet

HumaniNet assists humanitarian and mission field teams with information and communications technology, or ICT.  With its partners, HumaniNet investigates and tests available, affordable solutions that provide a critical lifeline for teams in remote areas.  These solutions provide field communications, enable the coordination of planning and operations, and facilitate the sharing of useful information.

RSSI is a Californian company specialising in a wide range of satellite and communications solutions, specifically geared for the humanitarian community. Reuters Digital Vision Programme at Stanford University

This Programme is led by Stuart Gannes and sponsored by Reuters news agency. It has been very helpful in supporting a Fellowship and project team at Stanford, which built a prototype Integrated Communications and Mapping System, for use to map humanitarian situations in remote locations. The Enterprise Network (TEN)

TEN is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3), business incubator, support center, and accelerator for hi-tech entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley. Since being spun out from Joint Venture Silicon Valley in 1993 to support the area economy, we have helped launch over 60 successful startups, including: eBay, iPrint, Xros, Vertical Networks, Right Works, Intruvert Networks and others. World Vision - African field partner

World Vision is an international Christian relief and development organisation working to promote the well being of all people but especially children.

In 2002, World Vision offered material, emotional, social and spiritual support to 85 million people in 96 countries.

2003 was the third year of drought in the southern African region resulting in 25 million peoples lives being seriously threatened by famine. By July 2003 World Vision had raised and targeted emergency relief to the value of US $ 198 million to benefit over 8 million utterly impoverished people. This was a substantial part of the UN consolidated appeal which raised in total US$ 680 million.

In particular World Vision in the 'Southern African Sub-Region' strives to:

• Promote quality programming that responds to the needs and aspirations of all community members
• Facilitate continued learning across different programs with sharing of best practices, new monitoring tools
• Respond to emergency and immediate humanitarian needs
• Embrace policies in decision making, communication and human resource management that are participatory and affirming
• Demonstrate servant leadership

The Southern African Sub-region includes nine countries: Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

A senior staff member of World Vision South Africa has written:
"World Vision International is pleased to Partner with Global MapAid, on a project to create maps of humanitarian conditions in the southern Africa region. These maps would be more detailed and relevant to operational agencies than those that currently exist.

Southern Africa is facing severe problems due to climatic changes, chronic poverty, HIV/AIDS and governance issues. Maps which can be created to more clearly demonstrate the causes and effects of some of theses issues will be extremely useful in terms of facilitating the improved co-ordination of the work of all parties, be they aid agencies, government personnel, international donors or our own staff. The maps would also represent a powerful empowerment tool to assist in practical dialogue with communities about livelihoods and vulnerability.

We are therefore, supportive of collaboration with Global MapAid in Zimbabwe or Mozambique, both locations where humanitarian conditions are particularly challenging."
